Urban Legends

Do you know what an urban legend is? There are many urban legends in the world. Some urban legends frighten people, some make you laugh, or some are just plain ridiculous. The urban legends that came up during research are funny because when you think about how many people randomly will make up a story just to creep people its crazy and you wonder if they have anything better to do. One of the three supernatural urban legends that I found have been proven to be true on snopes.com. Poltergeist Deaths, Amityville Horror, and Calls from the Dead are the supernatural urban legends that I came a crossed.

One of the three supernatural deaths that I found on snopes.com is of the Poltergeist Deaths. The poltergeist deaths seem to really interest me because at least one of the cast members would die after or a little before one of the films came out. It turns out that these deaths were just simply coincidental. Altogether while filming the trilogy four of the cast member died. Fans were all intrigued by these mysterious deaths. Even though these deaths were proven to have nothing to do with the deceased being involved in the filming of the poltergeist people were still astounded because only two of the deaths were expected and the other two were just fatal deaths that occurred between the other two cast members. Before assuming that things are true you should look them up a on a website such as snopes.com.

Calls from Beyond is another one of the eerie supernatural urban legends that have occurred. Apparently a man that was supposed to be in the train wreck that occurred on September 12, 2008. Members of this man family and his loved ones claimed that they were getting calls from his cell phone. When they would answer the phone they wouldn’t hear a response all they would hear is static noises. The man calling his loved ones after he died most people thought that things was just another false story, just another hoax to try and creep people out. Snopes.com proved that this was indeed a true story. They also gave some eerie facts about what happened and about how it’s true.

The one urban legend that popped up over research was the one about the Amityville Horrors. This one seemed very interesting. This urban legend is about a family who was murdered by there son and the son ended up going to prison. After the murder of the family they sold the house to another family and this family claimed that this house was haunted. A cording to snopes.com this is the type of urban legend that tricky to identify if it’s true or false. It turns out this is false. The only part about his urban legend that was true was the part where the son murdered his family. But snopes.com helped us identify this urban legend.

In conclusion researching urban legends or anything for that matter is a good thing to do. You should always make sure things are true before posting them on a website or sending it in an email. Always remember that people take thing seriously and urban legends may frighten of confuse people.

When i was doing a web search about pictures that lie i came across a few pictures that stuck out to me. One of the pictures that stuck out to me in particular was the one of Katie the news anchor. Katie was on TV and she was obviously photo shopped she is a decent sized person and what they did was make her look even skinnier and kind of unnatural. There was also a few other odd pictures such as the the one where there is a shark in the most random place ever, the one picture with OJ Simpson, the one with the soldiers and the one with Hitler you can tell that they were all photo shopped.

Media violence in our daily lives is a normal thing. Three reasons of why media violence seems normal to us and it doesn't really affect us at all is because...

1. We have been desensitized by the media and by what goes on around us because its seems like all that goes around in the media and out in reality is violence.
2. The media also makes violent activities or wars mare extreme looking then they really are and we now that some of the time so what we see on the media is most of the photo shopped.
3. Also we have also learned not to care we just think who cares i have my own problems to deal with i don't need to worry about anyone else's.

Hip Hop 1

Rappers who talk about violence and the streets are just reflecting the violent American culture that we live in. I agree with the statement above. I agree with that statement because when people listen to that type of music or any type of music it will always affect you and the American culture even if you don't realize it. Music such as rap has a great impact on us(Americans). When we hear rap that involves violence it changes our perspective of how we see Americans like men for instance, men have to hold up a reputation that says you are strong and that you are violent. Michael Dyson, a cultural critic said "when you think about American society, the notion of violent masculinity is at the heart of American identity. So the preoccupation with Jesse James and the outlaw, the rebel-much of that is associated in the American mindset, the collective imagination of the nation, with the expansion of the frontier. In the history of America...the social imagination, the violent man using the gun to defend his family, his kin, becomes the suitable metaphor for the notion of manhood." That quot basically sums up my opinion of how Americans are affected by rap music.

compare and contrast

The two movies that I have watch both have things about either defacing women or men. Women are always being presented as a sex symbol or like an object. While men are presented as tough with no feelings besides anger, hate and wanting to destroy things. Both movies talked bout how this all starts at a young age for both genders. Women are being taught that the only way you can be beautiful and attractive to men is if you look like the women in the magazines. It's hard to live up to those standards since the women in the magazines don't really look like that and that they are just touched up really well. For the men they have to live up to the standards of being tough and showing no emotion. to the public if men show emotion it means they are gay or not a "real" man. Both of these movies have a very good way of telling men and women not to listen or look up to the advertisements or try to live up to the standards of being a "real" man. I think they are saying to not let people define you. You should be you no matter what shape, size, gender, or how emotional or beautiful you are. you should try to not let people say they think you fat then go on a diet then become anorexic or you shouldn't toughen up if your a man and go out and kill someone to prove that your tough. That's wrong and those things should never cross any ones mind. I think both of these movies are a great inspiration to men and women across the world and I believe that once you see these two videos it will change the way you see men and women.

After the Superbowl our media analysis class watched the commercials. While we were analyzing the commercials i learned a couple things. i learned that it cost 3 million dollars for a 30 second add ( which is ridiculous) and i learned that when the viewers watch the adds it draws more attention to the companies products making us the consumers want there product.

So far in media analysis i have learned about the 5 key concepts. The 5 key concepts we learned are...

1. All media messages are constructed.


2. Media messages are constructed using creative language with its own rules.


3. Different people experience the same media message differently.


4. Media have embedded values and points.
5. Most media messages are organized to gain profit and or power.
